Albert F Buettner

PFC Albert F Buettner was born in Dec 14, 1913 in the Town of Richmond. He was one of a set of twins. His brother, Alfred, died days later on January 1, 1914. His parents were Albert W. and Anna(Sperberg) Buettner. It was a large family with 14 children. When his brother Harold enlisted into the Army in December 1940, “Pat”, as he was called, followed suit. He joined the Army on Feb 4, 1941 as a member of Batter A 60th Coast Artillery. He was immediately sent to California, and on March 22, 1941 he arrived at Corregidor in the Philippine Island. Here he served until the fall of Corregidor, May 7, 1942, when he was taken prisoner by the Japanese. He remained on the Philippine Islands until sometime in October 1942 when he was taken to a prisoner of war camp at Osaka Japan. The government notified the parents on November 6th 1945 that their son, Albert, had died at Osaka of cardiac beriberi on December 16th, 1942.
