2 A SPIEGEL.JPG

Albert P Spiegel was born on May 2, 1917 in Tigerton. He graduated from Tigerton High School and Green Bay Business College. In 1936, he began his professional career at Morning Glory Dairy Foods, retiring in 1982 as Treasurer of that company. Albert enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 15, 1941 and by March 1, 1942, he found himself at the center of some of the fiercest fighting of the war in the European Theater.

Albert worked primarily as an Administrative Non-Commissioned Officer. His skills as an accountant and his ability to execute complex logistics and personnel management operations rendered him indispensable to Headquarters Company, Seine Area Command, within the European Theater of Operations Communications Zone. During the three and a half years that Albert spent deployed to Europe during World War II, he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant, which is a testament to his professional competence an superior leadership ability.

Albert's leadership of his combat service support teams allowed the soldiers of Seine Area Command to ensure Allied victory in key battles in the European Theater. In August of 1944, Seine Area Command was responsible for maintaining accountability of personnel and efficiently distributing supplies after the liberation of Paris.

After the liberation of Paris, Albert's unit remained hard at work, executing the daily operations of one of the largest and most important systems of supply depots on the European continent and providing logistics and administrative support to frontline American troops. Albert and his soldiers fulfilled the requirements of General Patton's Third Army, which was famously recourse hungry as it sped across the continent. Albert's courage and ingenuity occurred during the Battle of the Bulge, when Communications Zone units pulled together to rapidly relocate supple caches, fuel dumps, and troops to the front, allowing U.S. forces to beat back German aggression in the Ardennes sector.

In recognition of his exemplary service in the U.S. Army, Albert received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 bronze service star, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII.
