Robert J. Bohr

Robert Bohr was born in 1931 in Shawano, Wisconsin, to parents Margaret and Bernard Bohr. He received his education at Sacred Heart School and later graduated from Shawano High School in 1950.
In January 1951, Robert attempted to enlist in the Marine Corps but was turned away due to vision issues. Relocating to Milwaukee, he found employment at Allis Chalmers as an overhead crane operator and hitcher. Undeterred in his desire to serve his country, he successfully enlisted in the Marine Corps in October of that year after the vision standards had been modified. He completed boot camp in San Diego and underwent advanced infantry training at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California.
Robert was deployed to Korea, arriving on Easter Sunday in 1952. He spent the following year contributing to the Korean War, focusing on construction tasks such as building bridges and roads, as well as assisting in the setup of peace talk tents in Panmunjom. After his service in Korea, he was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, where he showcased his basketball talents under the guidance of Captain Kluggish, a former player at Kentucky under Coach Adolph Rupp. Robert later served at the Yorktown Naval Base in Virginia before being honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.
Ultimately, Robert returned to his hometown of Shawano, Wisconsin, where he married Dolores Radtke, a resident of Bonduel. Together, they raised five children: Sharon, Susan, Sandy, Robert Jr., and Barbara. He is also a proud grandfather of five grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and a great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.
Robert's life exemplifies hard work, dedication, and a deep love for family. His journey from Shawano to Korea and back again to his hometown of Shawano is a story rich in purpose, resilience, and warmth.
