Richard W Postl

Richard W. “Dick” Postl was a man of service, adventure, and community roots. A veteran of the United States Navy and a long-time fixture of the Town of the Wescott on Shawano Lake. Dick’s life was defined by his dedication to his country, his entrepreneurial spirit, and an unwavering love for his family and great adventures.

Dick was born in Oshkosh, WI in March 1935, to Albert and Irene (Kranzusch) Postl.

In 1954, Dick enlisted in the United States Navy, beginning an eight-year journey that took him across the globe. His service included 5.5 years in the Pacific Fleet, a year in the Atlantic Fleet, and time at the submarine base in New London, CT. During his travels to England, Australia, Greece, Italy, and Japan. While stationed in Japan, he met the love of his life, Seiko Tomiyoshi. They were married in Yokohama 1957 and by the 60s, returned to the states to raise their 3 children, Tom, Sandy, and Sue.

In the early 70s, Dick and Seiko became local legends on Shawano Lake as the owners of Dick and Seiko’s Bar. For 29 years, their tavern served as a local gathering place in the Town of Wescott.

Dick also had a love for sports cheering for the Packers, Badgers, Brewers, and Bucks. He also enjoyed supporting racing at Shawano Speedway. He was more than just a fan; he was a part of the racing culture. Dick and Seiko’s Bar was a longtime, sponsor of the iconic #5 car. In his later years, Dick never missed a Saturday night at the track, where he transitioned from sponsor to the ultimate "pit grandpa", cherishing every moment spent watching his grandson Lukas carry on the racing tradition with the #5 car.

Dick lived life embracing every season Wisconsin had to offer. As an avid fisherman he enjoyed fishing trips with buddies. Dick also loved traveling across the United States with his children and grandchildren, creating a lifetime of memories on the open road.

Above all, Dick was a family man. He was happiest when attending the many events of his grandchildren (Lindsey, Shelby, Kory, Lukas, & Shane) and great-grandchildren (Kobe, Adley, & Karter).
